Low storage problem

Hi, i have an DSN320L with latest firmware.

I have an 4tb Hd as drive 1 and an 320gb Hd as drive 2

I have only 67gb free in hd 1.  I have problem with p2p downloading (It freezes and don t download nothing until i free some space,  even trying to download a 3gb file for example)
Is there some way to defrag this Hd? is there a way to make it work better?

If i have to upgrade the other Hd to make an jbod (backing up only the 320gb hd) without loosing file on hd 1 ?

  • What Hardware version is your DNS? Look at the sticker behind or under the device.
  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the DNSs web page under status.
  • What region are you located?

How full are the drives?
Can you copy a file from your PC to drive 1 and 2?


Might check to see if there are any temp files being generated by your P2P downloading...

Volume_1 Total 3665.1gb , 67.2Gb Free
Volume_2 Total 291Gb , 0.2Gb Free

It's very difficult to copy any files from pc to them.  Only if files are very small.

How/Where can i check temp files from p2p?  (torrent and incomplete directories are empty)

The problem maybe that the p2p program is seeing drive 2 with zero free space left.
I presumed you should get the data off this drive and upgrade the drive size here...

I assume you are using a PC to view the files on your NAS - what operating system are you using and what program is the file viewer?

If you are using windows have you unset the option that hides certain files (it must be set to show ALL files otherwise temp files are generally not seen).

Part of the problem could also be the disparity in the sizes of the two disks you are using and how the free space is presented to the download program by the software RAID system of the NAS box (any download program allocates the total space for the download as well as the same amount of space for the temporary file it produces as it is downloaded - after the file is downloaded and checked it is then written out as the final file and all temp files are deleted therefore a 3TB download may require 8TB of free space to download, more if the file is fragmented.

I would advise you to backup the data on the small drive and then replace the disk with one of similar size to the large one.  Set it up and format it as a Standard RAID type ( this gives you back Volume_2) copy your backed up data back to it and hopefully your problems should be over.
