Wi-FI "Schedule" functionality - no WAN connection
« on: April 21, 2021, 10:53:13 AM »

I recently changed the setup on my DIR-2680 to have the incoming (internet) from another router which is acting as the DHCP router.  So the incoming connection to the DIR-2680 is to a LAN port (not the WAN port).

Now, the wifi schedule function has no effect and stays active always.

Is this the intended design? (ie, that no WAN connection means no Wi-FI schedule control?

  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.

I haven't futzed with mine in a while. I though scheduling was working.
How are you setting up the scheduling and configuring it? If I remember, Yellow highlighting was when the wifi should be turned off however it maybe opposite. Been a while so I'd need to check mine again. You also have to give the setting a name, apply it then apply this name to the Enable Schedule setting in the Wireless menu. Apply it there.

Does this work for you?

Hi FN (sorry for the delayed response)

I've been using schedules for years, I have several different ones set up and all was working fine when using the WAN port.  My home network never really worked correctly since the dir-2680 WAN port was connected to the home gateway and with the multiple APs in my house, couldn't get to printers connected to the main gateway.  After seeing online how to daisy-chain routers I saw that the second router (in this case the dir-2680) should connect to the primary gateway (my Linksys) through a LAN port  and not the WAN port.

That's when the wi-fi scheduling stopped working.  I was going to see if I can go back to using the dir-2680 WAN port, but doesn't seem like I can (all the "internet connection options (DHCP, PPPoE, PTP, etc.) seem to work when connecting to an ISP, not another router.

So I was just wondering if the WI-FI scheduling only works when something is connected to the WAN port.  Its been the MOST useful feature of the dir-2680 which allowed me to curtail the kids internet and really hope I can get it working again

Ok, that gives more info.

One thing that I noticed about the 2680 is that the router behaves differently when in a AP node configuration when using the LAN port. I noticed that last time I tried, the router would not work right in AP mode using the LAN port. Other or older D-Link routers, one can configure the router by setting a different IP address for the router, i.e. 192.168.0.1 gets changed to something that is with in your host routers DHCP IP address pool. Then disabling the DHCP server on the D-Link router, then after the changes are set, one would connect the LAN port of the D-Link router now in AP Mode and connect it to the LAN port of the host router. The D-Link router should connect and start to pass internet traffic thru the router in AP mode to any thing connected to the wireless on the router or to the other LAN ports. With the 2680, D-Link changed something that caused this not to happen or work right.

I need to get mine out again and see if anything has changed since last time I tried this.

I guess you'll need to use the WAN port on the 2680 if you have a host router in front of the 2680. IF so, just use the DMZ on the host router for the IP address that the 2680 gets from the host router. The DMZ on the host router will help avoid any connection issues since having two routers on the same line will cause a double NAT condition. The DMZ will help this.

So checked mine again and now I remember what the problem is. I loose access to the 2680s web page after a while. AP mode works but for some reason the web page stops working. And yes. scheduling doesn't work when using LAN port connections to the host router.
