Power failuer: DNS-320L is no more accessible

Hi D-Link team,

I'm writing to ask for your assistance to get my DNS-320L back to life!

Backgroud
My NAS worked smoothly with the static IP 192.168.1.3 and I was really happy until the short power failure.[/br]
After this brief outage, the NAS is not accessible anymore. All other devices have rebooted and back to normal.[/br]

My approach so far to get my little baby back to life:
  • Check DHCP client list on router: 192.168.1.3 / NAS not listed
  • Apply "D-Link Storage Utility": No NAS is listed
  • Apply "ShareCenter Setup Wizard": No NAS is listed
  • OK, let's reset the NAS by pressing the reset button for 10sec
  • Check for blinking power LED: Jep, it is blinking
  • Check DHCP client list on router: NAS not listed
  • Last idea, build a "private" network with a switch + pc + NAS
  • Check for blinking power LED: Jep, it is blinking
  • Check DHCP is running on switch: Yes it is enabled; IP range 192.168.0.100 - 200
  • Check DHCP client list: NAS not listed

I would appreciate your feedback to solve this issue.

Can you check the voltage and amps at the power adapter tip to see if values are the same as listed on the sticker? Might have a electronics shop take a look at that. If you can find another power supply with same ratings as the original as see if this does anything.

thank you for your prompt feedback!

I have tested the NAS with a different power adapter with the same result.

My next step is, replace the CMOS battery ... but i need to wait for Saturday.

Another thing to check, are the two LEDs on the network socket lit or blinking?  This will indicate if the network section of the NAS is functional.

Also move the network cable from the NAS to another socket on your router or switch.

Hi all,

first of all thank you for your help and I'm happy that my NAS is back to live.

I found the solution here: http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=55647.0 in this forum.

After removing all hard disks,
  • Changed the power adapter -> NAS not starting
  • CMOS battery changed -> NAS was not starting.
  • Put NAS in the refrigerator (not icebox!) ..... Really?!? .... Jep, this was the solution ...
  • The NAS system temperature is 102°F/39°C

As a suggestion to help keep the NAS running cooler since this seems to be a heat issue, I would recommend you put a laptop cooler under the NAS and keep the cooler running under it. Would probably help keep the NAS from failing over heat temp issues.
I run one of these under my router all the time.  ;)
