Hello,
I just bought this route about 4 hours ago. I Installed it, ran firmware update *I have the Latest one)
My internet speed from the provider is said to be 1000mbs.
Via Cable my laptop gets around 950mbs download and 400mbs upload so via cable the speeds are spot on but my main issue is via wifi
On 2.4g I get around 138mbs download and 108 upload.(56mbs download, 70mbs uploade on phone)
On 5g Iget around 588mbs download and 227mbs. (303mbs down, 233mbs up on phone)

Tests were ran on my laptop for all 3 types of connection and on a samsung s7 edge for 2.4g and 5g. Only One device connected at a time. Distance from routes about 50cm.
Speed tests done on provider website+speedtest. Smart connect is dissabled, every band has a separate SSID.
Can anyone explain to me why my speeds via wifi are this low ? (mainly for the 2.4ghz)

Wireless speeds will not be anything near 900Mb on this router.
1. Depends on Mfr device and there bandwdith support. Most only max out at around 400-600Mb depending.
2. 2.4Ghz will also not see anything near 900Mb. Most max out at around 200Mb.
3. Channel width is a factor as well. 2.4Ghz only supports 40Mhz. 5Ghz supports up to 80Mhz. I thought that the 878 was going to support 80+80Mhz for 160Mhz however not sure.

Remember the 1900 speed seen on the box is a connection rate. Thus meaning a combined rate of 1900 Mbps (600Mbps on 2.4GHz + 1300 Mbps on 5GHz). This is only a connection rate between the router and connected devices. Not a actual speed rate.

The S7 is a single antenna (1x1).

You need a 3x3 system to get good throughput over wifi, since it achieves these speeds by using multiple data streams and multiple antenna.


Just now I moved 2.8GBs in 30 seconds, so 746Mb/s sustained.  That's with other devices enabled.  My son is playing Fortnight on the 2.4GHz space and I am moving this data between the Gigabit Ethernet interface and the 5GHz wifi space. I'm sure I could get higher speeds if I shutdown other devices etc. 

Not many laptops or phones have 3x3 systems so that's possibly the largest thing that will prevent you hitting good speeds.

Yes, also the antenna (#x#) is a factor as well.
