[Feddas]

1. I plugged a USB drive into the back of my DIR-882
2. Went to http://dlinkrouter.local./UsbSharing.html
3. Enabled "Windows File Sharing (SAMBA)"
4. An hour later I was unable to access the shares with my Windows 10 machine. I tried
\\192.168.0.1  returned the error "The remote device or resource won't accept the connection"
\\dlinkrouter.local   just didn't work, no error message
\\DIR-882_DMS        returned the error "Your broadband modem is experiencing connectivity issues"
In other words, none of them worked. Why doesn't the manual mention at least the suggested connection string to use to connect for either SAMBA or FTP?

Any ideas how I can access a Windows File Share (SAMBA) from the USB drive on the back of my DIR-882?

• What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under the router case.
• Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.
• What region are you located?

How are you connected with your windows 10 PC? Wired or wireless?
Have you rebooted the router and tried to access the USB drive?
What is the Mfr, size and model# of the USB drive?

3 things got it working for me:
1. Enabling "SMB 1.0/CIFS File Sharing Support" as described in your link
2. Discover the IP address of the router isn't what I expected, I went to http://dlinkrouter.local./Network.html and the IP address listed was 192.168.100.1!
3. Typed "\\192.168.100.1" into a windows explorer address bar.   Is there any way we can get the manual to be revised to mention that to access the samba share it's suggested to use the routers IP address in that format?  For us noobs that don't know what address we're supposed to use to access it.

- Model Name: DIR-882
- Hardware Version: A1
- Firmware Version: 1.04

2. I'm in the Seattle, WA area

3. I connected with a wired connection machine that was not joined to a domain. (I tried a domain joined machine and couldn't get it to work even when the user name was ".\admin")

4. When I click "USB Device" on http://dlinkrouter.local./Home.html it correctly read the USB drive. 1.86 GBs of total space. Almost all of the USBs space is available. When I enabled FTP I wasn't able to access using ftp://192.168.0.1 in windows explorer, but I was able to in a web browser. From that FTP session I was also able to verify that I could read a text file stored on the USB through the router. Which is a bit weird now that I know it is the wrong IP address.

5. I no longer have any Windows 7 machines.

Thats odd, the default IP address of the router and it's web page should be 192.168.0.1.

I'll have to see if we can get some more information on this.

• What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
• What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?

hi there.  any news on whether the 882 will get smb v2 or v3 support?  microsoft is deprecating v1 due to security vulnerabilities.  I'd hate to see SAMBA support disappear on the router when microsoft eventually removes v1 support entirely

I'm guessing the answer was no? 😣 I'd love to understand why. Is there some sort of ongoing cost associated to adding that support?

Sorry I did not follow up on this. Getting smb 2 and higher does require certification and licensing, which is far from free, but imo no excuse not to have it in new products. At least add an option for NFS.

I was sent the internal specs for the router but they do not list the smb version.

I sent another email to get the versions and explanation why smb 2 isn't being implemented in newer products. It could possibly be a vendor issue not supporting it.

I got verification that all D-Link routers are SMB v1 only. No immediate plans to update to v2 anytime soon.

SMB 2 and 3 both have security issues of their own, but definitely better than SMB 1. We will keep pushing to update it.
