Problem with ATT 3G?
« on: August 26, 2009, 09:54:36 AM »

Anyone have any ideas on why my wireless N connection drops when I get a phone call next to my PC? As soon as I end the call the connection comes back. BTW this is with a ATT iphone using a trendnet PCI adapter with a 655. Thanks.

Do you have any bluetooth devices connected to your iphone when you get a call?

Hmm, I can't think of any reason other than that issue that would cause this. your computer to drop their n connection.

Not sure if know you why I asked that, but if you had a call come in and your iphone was connected to a bluetooth headset, it might connect to it.  Since they use the same frequency, that might cause your wifi to drop.

The iphone is going to use either 850mhz or 1900mhz during a call.  The router is using 2.4ghz.  So there shouldn't be any interference going on.

And this happens every time you get a call?  What about people with other cell phones (particularly with att).

From my own experience with a iphone 3g and a iphone 3gs, I haven't run into this.  Hopefully someone else has some ideas.

Yeah it's weird. I tried both my wife's 3G and my 3GS with/without WLAN enabled on the phones without bluetooth and every time a call comes in to my desktop PC it drops. I will telll you that it does not drop while using my laptop which has a G card but the desktop has a trendnet N card. I think maybe the issue. IDK thanks for the help though.

Just blame the router. According to some you can blame it for every network issue, no tech knowledge required.

Forgive my cynicism, I'll get on topic.
The only thing I can think of is a electro-static interference that is genereated by the iPhone. This could be due to malfunction of the phone or a sensitive PC (BIOSes sometimes have an option to activate a reduce electro static generation, disabling this and a static generating iPhone might push it over the limit.)
