You don't need an extra switch to see the activity and confirm the ethernet backhaul. Once you login, click the arrow to see the extenders map.

Click the icon corresponding to the router (main unit) and you'll will see all devices connected to it. Scroll down and you will see the extender listed as "LAN_MeshExtender" - otherwise, it will show "WiFi_5G_MeshExtender".


The map is misleading and should be better done. It should show different lines for different connection types (perhaps a dotted line for WiFi and a straight line for ethernet). Also the line is red which to me means "Low quality" but it's actually connected via ethernet 1 Gbps. This also goes for the icons on the main page, showing the ethernet connection as "weak" when in fact I get close to 700 Mbps on speedtests for devices connected on that node.

I keep checking for FW updates because 1.01 works but D-Link could fix the way they give information on these admin pages.
