What was the last firmware upgrade? What changed?

I posted months ago about the difficulties and limitations in managing access rights.
Wondering if any improvements have been made.
Using Win XP.   Not able to log on with usename and PW.
Can only log on if no password, OR if mapping a drive.

Has this been improved or updated?
Looking to buy more NAS and this is a major issue.
