Help Please- DLINK RAID volume missing
« on: September 24, 2009, 07:11:57 AM »

Hi
I have a Firmware DNS-323 with firmware 1.06. I have  the below 2 drives.
Slot   Vendor   Model   Serial Number   Size
1   Seagate   ST3500320AS   9QM13RP6    500 G
2   Seagate   ST3500320AS   9QM13T0W    500 G

The configuration was Raid 1 on volume 1 and  JBOD on Volume 2.

Today I found that my DNS Lights were not working. when I pressed the button it switched on but I am not able to see the Volume 1 (Raid1).

HARD DRIVE INFO :
Total Drive(s):    2

Volume Name:    Volume_2
Volume Type:    JBOD
Total Hard Drive Capacity:    178084 MB
Used Space:    67619 MB
Unused Space:    110464 MB
-----------------------------------------
When I try to manually map the volume 1 it shows one folder on the drive and no files. All my data is gone!
And the mapped drive in windows shows 45.7 G free of 72 G.

Can any one help me here to understand what happened here and to restore my data?

Appreciate your help

Thanks,
Simon

Try mounting each HDD using EXT2FSD (http://www.ext2fsd.com); this may allow you to obtain a copy of your data ... alternatively, you will need to rebuild your RAID and restore your files from your external backup source.

Few other items:

  • Update the firmware to the latest non-BETA version
  • Use the Seagate HDD Diagnostic tool to verify each HDD (in 'Read Only' state if you haven't recovered the data)
