Hi! new here with a couple of issues...
« on: September 27, 2009, 08:58:29 AM »

Hello I have the 615, and have it set up for the desktop, the laptop, and my BB flip phone. It seems that sometimes the wireless wont work for the laptop even when it's in the same room, and the phone wont pick up the signal even though it's showing on the phone as uma. I have done a couple of resets on the 615, but is will not work after a while. The globe is glashing on the box, as well as the broadcast looking symbol. there is only one monitior flashing. It is the first one with the number one in it. Can someone possibly walk me through the steps to remedy these problems? The phone is a Blackberry 8220 on T-Mobile with a data package.

In all fairness I have had some pretty rotten things to say about my D-link DIR-655.  I had been fighting packet loss for over a year.

Turned out to be TWO bad modems.  Bought an SB5101 and problem solved.

The latest DIR-655 firmware basically crippled the router.  WLAN or LAN speeds were horrible.  No amount of re-flashing would take care of it.

My DIR-655 was retired to being a Gigabit switch.  It died a month later.  Tried a different power adapter - no dice.  I have had it for 2 years and only used it LIGHTLY.  Lame.

So.....

The OP and I needed some new routers.  One for him and one for my mom.  $40 at Micro Center each for DIR-615's.

It's a good thing that Micro Center has a 30 day return policy.  They now have a dedicated return bin for DIR-615's.

We tried every (possible) firmware upgrade.  The 310NA and 311NA.  Nope didn't do any good.

Consistent wireless drops and lag.  Horrible.

I went back to my WRT54GL with DD on it.  We exchanged both of the DIR-615's for a WRT54G2 at the OP's location.

Not a single problem since going to Linksys equipment.  Stock firmware on the WRT54G2.

Buyer beware.  Until D-Link pulls their heads out and designs a decent firmware, I would stay AWAY.

Such a pretty unit.  Such a pretty box.  External antennas.  Can't wait to see what DD-WRT will do for the DIR-615.  It might be a pretty nice home router with that firmware.

I also had bad experience with a DIR-615 (b) router.  Wireless network cause the router to reboot completely, not just the wireless signal.  It was a great wired router but pitiful wireless router.  Tried several suggested settings.  I finally RMAed it and have since "retired" it.  Now I am using a DIR-628 unit, in waiting for the "non Draft" version of the firmwares or hardware.  802.11n was "apparently" ratified recently by the IEEE community.
