USB hard drive crashing
« on: October 03, 2009, 08:49:53 AM »

I recently bought a 1TB hard drive and a usb 2.0 enclosure.  And my laptop is hard wired to my network.

From what I read online you can stream HD (1080p) movies with around 3-4 Mbps, and I was writing to the drive at 6 MBPS through the network and sharepoint software.

Everything worked great, until I had a torrent client running and trying to stream a 1080p movie to test it out.  Everything worked great for a while, and then everything just stopped.  The torrent clients speeds all went to 0, and the movie froze and crashed, almost like my ethernet cable was unplugged.  But the internet on my computer would still work fine...

So i tried it without the torrent client running, thinking that maybe it was using too much bandwidth.  Watched about 20 minutes of a movie before the same thing happened.

I really like this functionality, but im worried i wont be able to get it to work.  I guess that would just mean that I have to hard wire connect the usb hard drive to my laptop, but i really dont wanna do that.  Any suggestions?
