REV A 1.12 or not?
« on: September 02, 2009, 04:39:34 PM »

I seem to be one of the few people not having many problems with my 825. I do get internet drop off every week or so.

Other than that it does what it is suppose to do.

I also have a DAP 1522 in case that plays any part into updating the firmware or not.

Check the dozens of posts regarding V 1.11 and 1.12.  I suspect you'll decide on your own the answer is "not."

Cheers

I have RevA and 1.12NA. Don't see much of a change from 1.11. I had a weekly or so problem where it would lock but just the other day found the "DNS relay" trick and that seems to work.

My problem is Guest Zone.... It does not work. I have no security set up on the router (guest or non-guest) but do filter on MAC address. I live 19 floors up so I doubt people will "hack" into the router.

To be friendly to the neighbors, I decided to turn on guest zones. However, I have found that unless a MAC address is entered (for the secure zone) in the MAC filtering table, there is no way you can connect that computer. It does shield correctly, in that if I use my laptop to use the guest account, I can't go anywhere but the internet.

Does anyone actually use the guest zone? I'd like to.

If you have 1.1x firmware currently, there is probably no harm in going to 1.12
If you have a 1.0x firmware and things are working satisfactorily, you probably should not upgrade.

Having said that, though, as long as I turn DNS Relay off, 1.12 works fine for me (and turning off DNS Relay has no perceptible impact to my setup). With DNS Relay turned on (as it was in 1.0x), I was not happy with 1.1x firmwares. And note that there are others with worse problems than mine, wishing they had not upgraded from 1.0x.
