I found something sort of odd... I was ready to dropkick this thing back to microcenter but what ended up fixing things was using a crossover cable between one of my gig switches that it was uplinked to. Evidently my old old linksys could handle things properly, but the dlink couldn't autosense an uplink to another switch or something. When i put a crossover connector in, magically I got fantastic throughput between my xbox system and my vista machine running media center, and all the streaming tests flatlined as high as they could go on the xbox's graph test. Again, not sure why I needed to get fancy with the cabling, as i've used this sort of config with a linksys uplinked to Belkin and also the Linksys uplinked to a high end procurve, but the dlink to procurve wasn't happy...
So, I think i'm set...although it's not a great feeling knowing your new gear requires this much effort to get tuned to work properly..
