Does one drive have priority over the other drive in RAID 1?

So, the question is...

  Does the left drive or right drive have priority over the other for reading or writing in a RAID 1 setup?

I ask because I have two different 1 TB drives in my NAS.  One is a green drive that runs at 5400 RPM (my new drive), the other is not so green and runs at 7200 RPM (my older drive of maybe 6 months).  If there is strategic placement of these drives, I'd like to set it up that way.

My file system is EXT3.

Good question Joe. My drives are twins right now, but if I ever have one die and can't replace it with the identical drive, this info would be handy to have!

I'd be somewhat surprised if it would make any difference, but it would be interesting to hear the "official" response. :)

It's possible it doesn't make a difference but sometimes the software may inadvertently favor one drive over the other

Read over on the wiki that the right drive is the primary and the left is slave in RAID 1 config.  Nothing official from dlink though.

I know inside the box Drive 0 is the right drive and Drive 1 is the left.  I honestly don't see it favoring one but I'm sure it does in the code.  What's strange is if I pull the right drive and power on the unit it will report the left drive failed and the opposite if I pull the left drive.  Strange.  Yeap, running 1.03 firmware.  That problem my have already been listed somewhere in these forums and I'll have to look for it.  Can't imagine it's been covered.
