P2P web interface not functioning?
« on: November 02, 2009, 05:19:55 PM »

I've been downloading torrents for a few days now, and all of a sudden the web interface has stopped working.

I'm able to login and select Applications, then the P2P tab. The Download Tasks window comes up with Loading..., but then when it finishes loading that entire part of the window simply disappears.  I can't see the status of any of my torrents.  The only section still avaiable is Add A Torrent with the URL and from file options.  Everything under that is blank.

Is this common?

Can you elaborate on your P2P settings. Seed time, % etc, how many torrents would you say you were using simultaneously before it failed? The more information we get the easier it will be to reproduce.

Certainly.  I had four torrents running, none of which were near finishing.  I have it set to seed until it reaches a 50% ratio.  I had finished probably three or four torrents since I set it up, all of which worked fine.  When those finished I added these which had been running for days before this problem.

I power-cycled the box last night and nothing changed immediately.  However, after about 30 minutes I checked again on a whim and the Download Tasks section was back.  It was reading through the existing torrents and I guess verifying them, 2% at a time, until it caught up and started downloading again.  Very strange.

And it's done it again.  Power cycle has done nothing this time.

P2P doesn't work at all now.  Rebooting and even powering down for a few minutes haven't solved it this time.  It's like it's trying to get the progress of torrents, but can't read the "incomplete" share.  Could this be a permissions issue?  Everything was left to default, I've changed no permissions.

One thing I noted is that when two of the four active torrents finished the other day it did not move them from "incomplete" to the "complete" share.  I also cannot delete them from the "incomplete" share as it says I need permission from Unix User/root to do so.

Possibly related?  Any solutions or known workarounds?

Try uninstalling the P2P client and delete the P2P folder in the NasProg folder. Then Deleting the Complete and incomplete folders. Next just start from scratch and reinstall the P2P client.

I really wish this problem would get resolved. Obviously we are all having the same issue there has to be a way to track down the issue.

This is the second time it's happened to me in the < 1 week I've had the unit.  The first time I eventually found the files, scanned/rebuilt the partials and resumed downloading.  This time it hasn't.  I'm not about to cancel large downloads and start over every time this happens.

I guess my project for this weekend is getting another BT client installed and running.

Any ideas on the permissions thing though?  Why I wouldn't be able to delete from incomplete but I can from complete with default settings?

Just a guess, but possibly because the partials are "protected" by the O/S until they become complete?

xvalue: Possibly you could back up the work you've done so far, then follow through with ECF's request? That might be a resolve, or at least a way to narrow down the problem. If you reinstall the client and have no problems after that, it was probably just a funky install. Then you could add back a partial and the URL and see if the 321 finishes it for you. If so, then it really looks like a funky install. But if it still doesn't work, then maybe the files you were picking really were the problem? This would be a quick way to prove/disprove any theories of bad torrents or a bad software install, or possibly even bad hardware?

I'll give it a try tonight.

It's interesting that two of the "uncompleted" torrents that are sitting in the incomplete folder actually did finish.  They were at 100% when I clicked "Remove Completed" and I was able to copy them off to another drive.  The files are definitely complete.  Yet there they sit in the incomplete folder, mocking me.

Interesting, but not unheard of. Software is usually designed to do 1 of 2 things.

1. Either it works,
or
2. It mocks you, taunts you, and generally just sits there reminding you of what you can't have!  ;)  ;)  ;D

Okay, uninstalled the P2P add-on, reset to factory defaults, moved the uncompleted torrents out of the incomplete folder, reinstalled the P2P app and new torrents work.  HOWEVER, I can't move the previously uncompleted torrents back into the P2P\incomplete folder because I no longer have permission to do so.  I even tried turning the add-on off and no dice.

my problem isn't with incomplete torrents, it is with the interface. I have deleted the client, reinstalled, deleted the directories and tried fresh, the interface just doesn't allow the torrent to be added (either through URL reference, or reading the .torrent file from the HDD). It seems to be a simple web interface issue. The torrents aren't even being added to the queue.
