Dead DNS-323, please help!!
« on: August 25, 2009, 11:22:27 AM »

Hallo everyone,

I got a big problem. Been using my DNS-323 for 2 years or so. And then one day I press the power button to power up and the fan starts spinning, but non of the lights come on. Not even the light for the network cable come on, and my router (D-Link DIR-655) of course also has a dead light where the LAN cable of the DNS-323 goes. So no network connection.

The power button also is dead, does't matter how long I keep pressing it, it just won't shutdown anymore. So the only why to shutdown the device is taking out the power cord.

Then when I connect the power cord again the fan starts spinning again, and it's the same story.

So I can't shutdown or bootup the device with the power button (only with the power cord), and it does not seem to bootup at all!

Can some one please help me out?

There is a hardware reset button on the back, tried to press that one when the device is one, also when is was off. Is there any particuliere way of doing a hardware reset?

Or does anyone have any other suggestions on what to do next?

Many, many thanks...

Sounds, to me, like this might be a hardware (power supply) problem.

What disk configuration were you using?  RAID1? RAID0? Individual disks? JOB?

Do you have a recent backup of your data?

Unfortunately it looks like the unit has died. If you are still within warranty I would recommend contacting technical support via phone at 1.888.851.6464 24 Hours 7 Days a Week for an RMA to receive a replacement unit.
