DLNA Protocol Error 2114 with DNS-323 & PS3
« on: October 30, 2009, 08:25:45 AM »

Hi all,

I think i found one of the reasons for the DLNA Protocol Error 2114.

My configuration:
A brand new PS3 Slimline 250 GB with latest software version installed
A DNS-323 with firmware 1.06 and the uPNP AV enabled
A Sitecom network switch in between (so traffic is not going over my router.

Problem:
When i was browsing on the PS3 through the folders i regulary had the problem DLNA Protocol Error 2114 and the message no pictures found.

Troubleshooting:
I started to test in which conditions i had the problem (i have some experience with this, since i'm working in a software development team...).

Reason:
The reason for the error was that the directory name contained a quote!!! I just renamed the directory without a quote and everything works like a charm! ;-)  To be pretty sure that this was the reason i did the test again, and yep the error was back.

So could the moderator of this forum pass this info to the dev and tester team.  For the future they should put it in their testcases... ;-)

Hope this helps for some of you!

Thank you for you information. We are aware of this issue and it seems some special characters such and " and @ will generate this error on the PS3 and on the XBox360 and out DSM media streaming units will simply show the folder as empty if a file or folder contains these special characters.

Thanks ECF,

As a good practice i gathered all Media under one directory that i want to publish through uPNP to my PS3.

Is there a document that describes what are the current constraints of the directories and file names. (non supported characters (like quote, @, ...), maximum filelength, spaces, maximum nesting of directories, ...)?  A one-pager is enough and it would avoid a lot of frustration to a lot of non-techies.
The document can be updated with each new release.

Thanks for your answer!
