Please fix DIR-825 Firmware for Shareport problems
« on: November 30, 2009, 11:27:24 AM »

I bought the first generation of this router when it came out mostly for the Shareport feature.

The first firmware and Shareport SW worked perfectly, and I never had any connection problems. The Shareport interface was a bit crude, and feature poor, but it worked.

Then the new firmware 1.11 came along with a new version of the Shareport SW that was more polished and had the right features. Unfortunately, with this firmware and version, I would constantly loose the ability to connect to the printer, and needed to power cycle the router to fix the issue.

Then Firmware 1.12NA came along, supposedly fixing Shareport issues. It did improve the situation but did not resolved the problem completely. Most of the time the Connection works, but once in a while I wont be able to auto connect to the printer, and if I try to connect permanently using the Shareport utility, it says it is connected then drops the connection then tries again and I can never actually connect and print….

I am using Shareport with two different computers, an XP SP2 desktop, and a Vista Laptop both connected by wire to the router. The printer is a Canon MP830. Both systems have the same issue.
The only way to fix the problem is to power cycle the router, so clearly this looks like an issue with the Firmware.

I hope this can be fixed in a future version of the DIR-825 firmware, because the unreliability of the connection makes it a nightmare for my wife who is not technically savvy.

PS: I read some people had success by disabling DNS Relay, but when I go to the Network Settings, this option is grayed out …

PPS: It would be nice if when closing the Shareport utility, we had the option to have it minimize to the task bar instead of actually closing the application
