Author Topic: Deleting a photo from an iPhoto library on the DNS-323 is very slow  (Read 6364 times)

Dear all,

I have been using a DNS-323 (Firmware Version 1.07) with different types of clients (a MacBook running Leopard 10.5.8, various Linux computers and even a Wii with MPlayer CE) and I am very satisfied.

There is one thing that bothers me though: deleting a file within a Mac application takes a lot of time. For example, I have my iPhoto library on the DNS-323 and deleting photos from iPhoto takes (about) 30s per photo! Once, I had to delete about 200 photos and I had to be very patient...

Anyone having the same problem and who has managed to come up with a solution?

Thanks.

A couple of quick questions...

1)  Are you connecting to the DNS-323 via SMB?
2)  Do you have fun_plug installed?
2a)  If yes, have you tried installing AFP and Avahi?

1) Yes. The MacBook connects to the DNS-323 via SMB.

2) Yes. I do have fun_plug because I need Transmission.

3) No. After a few hours of fight, I am pleased to say that my DNS-323 runs AFP and Bonjour as provided by Netatalk and Avahi and everything is perfect now. I've detailed everything I did on my blog: http://www.noulakaz.net/weblog/2009/11/02/installing-avahi-and-afp-on-the-dns-323/

Thanks! And thank you to all those who wrote all those documents found online which I followed to get everything working.

Glad to hear you got it running smoothly with AFP and Avahi.  Both are running perfectly for me on my DNS-323 and DNS-343's.
