mpeg-4s Still won't play
« on: August 10, 2009, 05:12:26 PM »

I just got my DSM-520 and set it up.  I have a dell running vista using the D-link server software.  I have updated the firmware on the box.  I took videos using a flip ultrahd, saved as mpeg-4s,  which won't play.  I get an error msg saying the file format isn't supported.

How do I find out the specifics of what format the files are?

How do I convert them to something the dsm-520 will play?

Thanks,
Hank

Since my post I have tried using flipshare, which comes from the camera, to save the videos as wmv instead of the native mp4.  Both play on my computer in windows media player, but neither format is recognized by the dsm-520.`I've tried to use super c, but I'm not sure of the parameters to set in for an encoding that the dsm-520 will play.

Help, Please!

Thanks for the reply.  I have been trying to use super c to encode the files from the flipshare software (WMV 7 WMA 2) into either WMV9 or an MPEG 4 (ASP) and it blows up each time.  Do you have a recommended program that will encode to a format that will play?

As you can tell, I don't have much experience with this kind of stuff, so feel free to be basic and specific.

Thanks!

Fairuse Wizard 2 works perfectly every time.

Check out this link for some help on setup and what worked for me.

I use Pinnacle Studio 12 to make mp4's and they play fine on my DSM-520.

However, I just got a DNS-321 and moved them over there and now I get sound but no picture. I have contacted D-Link support regarding this. When using MediaTomb as the UPnP server the same mp4's play fine, so there's something wrong with the DNS-321 UPnP server.

RER Video converter.
Most of my files are mpeg4, but even then I have a problem with them every now and then.  If I make the files mpeg4/DIVX compatible I have no problems at all.
