No Primary/Secondary DNS Server blocks?
« on: September 03, 2009, 08:51:06 PM »

I noticed there wasn't anywhere to input my own selections for Primary/Secondary DNS Servers.  Here's a pic of the basic Router Settings page to show you what I'm talking about:

Tonight, I went onto my router to see if unchecking "Enable DNS Relay" on that page would help with my router slowdown/lockup issues (1.21NA firmware related).  As I watched the page load, I noticed that the were 3 blocks that painted as the HTML loaded and then promptly disappeared.  It's not that they weren't there, they seem to be being hidden upon load.
Example:

I'm able to get the Default Gateway, Primary & Secondary DNS blocks to show by hitting STOP on my browser before they hide.  However, even if I do change anything within these boxes, the firmware thinks nothing has changed, and doesn't commit the changes.
Example:

And if I say "Save anyway" the changes have no effect.

Internet > Manual Configure > Dynamic IP (DHCP) Internet Connection Type

You can set your DNS settings there.

I've also found it's the default DNS servers offered by the router's DHCP server to clients on your LAN.

The settings for DNS servers are NOT hidden.  You are just looking in the WRONG place.

If you want to set them, go to Basic -> Internet -> Manual Configure as stated above.

I did however notice it also.

Similar issue here:
DSL-2640R   Firmware Version: v1.18 Hardware Version: B2

I Select "Use the following DNS server addresses", fill out both fields (as above with opendns's), click apply settings which is in the bottom, and when the page loads its in the state of the screenshot here, like nothing ever happened. That's in advanced > DNS Setup, dont see dns settings anywhere else.
How to make it permanent?

Double post to bump,

Seems it was doing this because I had disabled DHCP. If DHCP is enabled (manual clients set up again so it'd work for them) DNS can be in the manual setting.
