Connect to WAN using wireless link???
« on: November 13, 2009, 07:25:34 AM »

I have a Linksys WGA54G - RG45 wired on one side and 802.11g on the other. It's a gaming adapter for the old days when consoles didn't have wireless capability.

I want to replace the cable on the WAN side of the DIR-825 with this WGA54G.

I wasn't able to make the router / gaming adapter connect to my AP. Has anyone done this successfully?

Cheers, Joe

Interesting setup.
My guess is, your WGA54G is not giving the DIR-825 an IP address through DHCP, so you have to set the WAN IP (Internet setup) to manual & configure the correct setting.

I'm still picking away at this problem - it's important now because we're in an RV resort where I can get WiFi through my WGA54g but my wife often can't directly connecting her notebook. NOT a good situation  :(

It takes several minutes but eventually the DIR-825 gets what appears to me to be correct WAN addresses via DHCP. It gets an IP address like 10.10.10.71 and DNS server addresses like 65.32.1.65. The LAN address range is 192.168.0.10-20.

I assume the router can map my LAN addresses to the WAN address - I mean, that's what it does, right? Or maybe I should change my LAN address to 10.10.10.X???

Cheers, Joe

Here's the latest:

- I totally failed to get the router to connect to the network via the gaming adapter when the gaming adapter was plugged into the WAN port.

- I plugged the WGA into one of the wired router ports and it does work (sort of)

- my desktop PC which is also plugged into a wired port works fine including interet access via the router and wireless gaming adapter.

- my notebook connects to the router but will not connect to the internet.

I turned off DHCP server and enabled DNS relay on the router but the notebook still gets one of my old IP addresses (192.168.0.100) and is unable to find a DNS server.

Progress, but I'm still at a loss to understand why the notebook won't work.
