How to restrict one client to access the LAN only?
« on: December 30, 2009, 11:16:30 AM »

I have a number of wired and wireless clients connected to my DIR-855, but one of them (a Linksys bridge) shall not be allowed to access the internet - only the router (and possibly one other LAN client).

Is this possible to configure?

Yes, it is possible to configure.

  • Go to Tools in the top menu then select Schedules on the left menu.
  • Set up a schedule to apply this policy.  If the computer should never have access to the internet, the first two steps can be skipped.
  • Go to Advanced in the top menu then select Access Control on the left menu.
  • Enable Access Control then select Add Policy.
  • Give the policy a name.
  • Select the schedule name you created above or 'always' if it the policy should always be applied.
  • Type in (or select) the MAC address of the computer you want to block the access and click OK.  It is better to use the MAC address over the IP address because it is a little harder to defeat.
  • On step 4, select 'apply web filter' and 'block all access'.
  • Save the policy and you are set.
