Dual wireless connections showing?
« on: February 24, 2010, 08:14:38 PM »

I have a new DIR-825 with the latest firmware.  Everything seems to be working fine, however, my Network and Sharing Center (Vista) is populated by two wireless connections at the same time.  One shows up as a Private Network with my correct SSID only it has a space and the number 4 added to the SSID.  A second simultaneous connection is listed also and described as Unidentified Network (Public network).

For both connections, my correct SSID is listed in parenthesis after the "Connection"  "Wireless Network Connection" line.  If I disconnect one, the other goes away and vice versa.

FYI, this is on the 2.4GHz band only, the 5GHz band is a different SSID altogether.

Just delete all wireless profiles in the network and sharing center, restart and connect to your wireless again.

Thanks, I tried that.  A couple times.  I searched the problem elsewhere on the internet and like so many other computer/networking issues, the results where many and varied.  Most seem to indicate that there is some setting or settings somewhere in my PC that are responsible or that it's just Vista itself.  The only thing I know is that this was not a problem with my previous Linksys G router- it started as soon as I installed my new DIR-825.  Maybe it has something to do with the simultaneous dual band?  I don't know.

Here's what my problem looks like in my Network and Sharing Center:

My one "freeride" SSID connection is generating both a private named connection and a public unidentified connection ??!!
