Hi all,

First time posting from what I re-call, and can't find a problem on here in the first 5 or 6 pages of results that covers it so here is a new post

Basically I have the DNS-323, currently with 2 x 2tb SeaGate drives in it all working fine.
The only issue I have is either:

(a) DNS-323 Built in upnp av media server is not refreshing the list of media in the selected folder.
or
(b) My PS3 is not refreshing the list (in-which case I need to go onto the ps3 forums )

I am pretty sure its the first one, as the PS3 works for another media server I have at home.

Some days the media will appear in a couple of hours, but I've been waiting about a week now and the index ain't updating, regardless of refreshing manually or rebooting.

Anyone got any ideas as how to resolve?

I have this issue once in awhile in regards to files not showing up in my PS3 listing as well.

I am running 2 1TB Seagate    ST31000340AS.

What I usually do is a refresh in the Advanced tab, and then in the UPnP AV SERVER SETTINGS.  Once that is done then I shut down the DNS323 let it sit for about 30 seconds and then turn it back on.  Once it has finished it's startup sequence I go and check what it shows on my PS3 and files that weren't showing now come up.
I also do this when I get those pesky DLNA errors.

Well, thanks for providing some kind of solution, but one would imagine that upnp would work without such complicated maneuver each time you add something.... I have the same problem, and simply manually update never solve the problem. I have disabled the useless upnp some time ago, which actually was one of the reasons why I bought the D-link in the first place. Would be great if this issue could be adressed in the mythic and misty 1.8 fw which hopefully appear before 2012.

Agreed fredrokk, you would think this feature would work

use the ps3 media server as it serves up directories accuratly without refress

the 323 really does have its limits contrary to what they advertise.

I have to powerdown and then unplug for a few minutes and then manual refresh and it still doesnt get everything.

I have returned my unit once b/c of this but that didnt seem to fix it.  its a product problem that should be simply to fix with a software update but we havent seen one for a year.

I get support to tell me to back up my drives and reformat and that should fix the problem.... ya right

Sorry for delay, net access was a bit parchy over the weekend...

Yep, well I should say it tells me "Refresh successful" but doesn't actually refresh the list. It updated on saturday evening at about 6pm for some reason, bringing the total to waiting 4.5 days for the list to update which is a bit of a joke lol.

My investigation over the weekend seems to bring it to certain file names, possibly with odd characters that are causing the refresh to crap out and not update properly. Although why it updates eventually is beyond me at this point. It would be handy to be able to get a look at the physical list of files in the index that is built to diagnose the issue. Created 1 folder with 5 files in it called test1.avi -> test6.avi each of which are different videos that I have stored somewhere. Both the auto-update and the manual refresh seemed to work when I added files, removed files, changed names etc, so I am assuming something is causing it to crap out during its normal processing.

Enigmab: If you have a RAID 1, check your RAID status (It happened to me this weekend) if It's degraded, It takes hours, but if it synced OK, then It takes a couple of minutes (I don't have my nas full of media, just a 50 GB).

As far as I recall I didn't use RAID, and I am currently using about 3.2tb out of the 4tb (roughly) in total, but even then it shouldn't be taking this long to refresh the list.

Also be careful not to create too many sub folders.  PS3 has issues seeing folders within folders after a certain point.  Sony corrected this up to a point.   More sub folders can be seen now than before but it still can't see past a certain point.

-Just thought I’d give my two cents.

The PS3 hates symbols. I've noticed that if there is an apostrophe or quotation in any file or folder it causes sporadic behaviour. Sometimes I have trouble using a parent folder because several folder trees down there is a single file with an apostrophe in it. I have an apostrophe in my last name – the PS3 hates my family photos. Make sure there are no special characters in any of your files as they can interfere with the refresh process or the PS3’s ability to see your files.

Make sure that the UPnP is turned on in the PS3 and your router if it has one.  The DLNA structure works off of the UPnP.

The DLink devices are not DLNA certified, and are broken in Windows7.  The builtin media server has problems.  This is a fact.  Also, the indexing takes sooooo long as you mentioned.  I have subsequently gone to funplug and mediatomb for this very reason.

As the witness says, there are alternatives. 

I have for my own purposes found that I do not need the upnp and itunes capabilities.  You can go into the web admin portion (192.168.1.xyz) of the dns-323 and go into the Advanced section and under the upnp and itunes subsections disable either or both services.  Things very might well speed up on your system, mine did. 

This is a very easy thing to test and you can undo your actions just as easily.

Hi,

I've solve my DLNA errors by switching my 100mb connects to 1gig connection.

Route is DNS --> switch... switch -->  ps3 (all gig connected) works fine now.

DNS-323 1.08b09 (Seagate 1.5tb mirrored) and PS3 ver. 3.15.

Rebuild for AV takes about 10-15 minutes for 1.4tb of avi's and if I move any movies around... I have to refresh every time.
