DIR-825 Pounding my Internet Router
« on: December 18, 2009, 03:17:47 PM »

Hi All,

In the past week, I had to reboot my internet router (Westell A90-9100EM15-10) several time. Here's my network settings:

Internet----Verizon_Router----NetgearGS108T Switch----DLink Dir825 (AP Mode)

Verizon Router:
- IP=192.168.1.1
- DHCP=On (range from 192.168.1.10 - 192.168.1.254)

Netgear GS108T:
- IP=192.168.1.2
- DHCP=Off

DLink DIR-825 (B1):
- Using as an Access Point
- IP=192.168.1.3
- DHCP=Off
- UPnP=Disabled

The problem I have is that the internect connection is lost.  When I look at the Verizon Router and the DLink router, I see the links on both routers are flashing like crazy.  I had to reboot the Verizon router to get it working again.  The question is, if Verizon router is malfuncitonaing, why is it that the connected port on the DLink blinks light crazy.  Could it be that something from the DLink is trying to connect?

Thanks

what is the purpose for the NetGear switch?  Can you take it out of the link and just use the ethernet ports on the DIR-825?

I have a similar setup, but with a switch in a different location.

I have a Comcast cable modem.  It's IP is 10.1.10.1 and I have my DIR-825 connected to it.  I set a fixed IP address in the DIR-825 to 10.1.10.80 on the WAN side.

The DIR-825 LAN is 192.168.1.1 on the LAN side and has DHCP starting at 192.168.1.100 and up.

I have a couple of wireless computers and laptops connected to it via the 2.5 Ghz wireless side.

I have a Gaming Adapter connected on the 5 Ghz side and have an XBox 360 connected to the gaming adapter. I also have an Ethernet Bridge connected on the 5 Ghz side.

Out of the ethernet bridge, I have a 5 port dumb switch.  I have a computer, a satellite receiver, a second XBox 360, and Network Attached Storage drive connected to the switch.  The NAS drive has a fixed IP address of 192.168.1.75.

I have a computer, a Windows Home Server, and a second NAS drive connected to the DIR-825 ethernet ports.  The NAS drive has a fixed IP address of 192.168.1.75 and the Windows Home Server has a fixed IP address of 192.168.1.10.

Everything else on the network uses DHCP IP addresses from the DIR-825.
I have absolutely zero problems with this setup.  The last time I looked, my link had been up for over 20 days with no problems.

Thanks for the comments.

Richm... looks like you have your network segmented.  I though about using that approach but decided not to maily because of having additional route to go thru in order to access the internet.

Maybe it's my switch issue.  Just need to test it out.

just a note on my setup.  Last night, for some reason, I was having some problems logging onto an XBox party.  I changed my new XBox to a fixed IP adddress, and it resolved the problem.  Not sure what that was all about, but it worked  :)

Well, after additinal testing.  It is not my switch.  I have the DIR-825 (without device attached to it) connect directly to my Verizon router and left it for a day.  The same issue.  Last night, I unplug the DIR-825 and just leve the Verizon router alone... have not experience the lock up yet.  Looks like a 825 issue.

I've followed the documentation to setup DIR-825 for a AP mode.  Any thoughs?

Thanks
