Offsite backup via ftp?
« on: December 31, 2009, 02:22:25 AM »

Hi there,

I am somewhat uncomfortable with my current data safety policy. At the moment I have our family's primary data on our various laptops / pc:s with backups on the DNS-323 (along with the single instances of noncritical, but shareworthy, stuff like music). However, as all of these are in the same apartment we would lose all our data in case of fire or other disaster.

Recently my ISP started offering 50GB ftp storage at their servers for a pittance, which made me wonder. Is there any way to schedule uploads to a remote ftp site with the dns-323 (ie. a mirror image of the current "scheduled download" functionality)?

If this is not possible with the upcoming 1.08 FW, can it be done, without too much tweaking of the dns-323, with some third-party applications?

Thank you in advance,
