connection to server failed
« on: January 02, 2010, 02:41:47 PM »

I have a dns 323 with two seagate 1TB disks (ST31000528AS).

When I try to login to the server and look at my downloads, I get a message saying "connection to server failed". The first time it happened I restarted the nas and it worked again, but now it's happened again! I can still reach the disks and everything else works, I just can't login to the website.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

Thanks

Are you trying to log in http://IP ADDRESS or in IE you can simply type the name of the unit mine is simply called "NAS" so i just type "NAS" into the browser and it goes

It's the same with IP as the name of it, neither works. I just the error http 404.

edit: When using firefox it says:
Access Error: Site or Page Not Found
when trying to obtain /web/login.asp?id=7977692
Cannot open URL

Did you reboot the machine and the NAS to see if that helps?  How about trying to reach it in Safe Mode with Networking?

Another issue might be a firewall setting...

The only thing that has worked so far is restarting the nas.

It always seems to happen when I'm in the download section.
I've been serching the web and found someone else who has this problem too, and they seem to believe that it has something to do with BT and the download section.

Well, it has been observed here that the BT client has some issues, I had it running for a couple of weeks and didn't see this particular issue.  Try stopping the BT client and see if it reoccurs.

ok, thanks for the help. I will see what happens...

edit: I'm pretty sure it's the BT section that makes it not work. It only happens when I'm entering Download -> Bittorrent to see my downloads. Hopefully they will fix it...

When I was using the BT client, I had persistent errors where it would "lose connection to server" and you'd have to retry.

That's what I have. But the retry button doesn't always work. So it's after that I have to restart the nas because it won't find the login screen anymore.

I've switched to using utorrent on my comp instead till it gets fixed... I hope:)

Good plan, I don't think the BT client is really ready for "prime time" yet. ;)
