USB Port for Shareport Utility must be turned on
« on: October 29, 2008, 07:05:59 AM »

Hi All and Support,

I plugged in the magicJack into the USB Port and when I connected to the magicJack, from its location on the DIR-655, I was constantly losing the connection to the Router.

For those who don't know about the magicJack, it is http://www.magicjack.com/1/index.asp .

I had to remove the device and reattach the magicJack to its USB Port on my computer.

I was attempting to install the magicJack onto the computer from the USB Connector on the DIR-655 Router.

But after you reboot the computer, the Shareport Utility does indeed detect the magicJack, but you must highlight it and click on the highlight and click Connect. Then I start losing the connection to the Router.

You should be able to set the option for the SharePort Utility to Connect as soon as the Device is detected and not have to click on Connect.

This would be an ideal way for the D-Link Programmers to test the USB Port on the Router. Why does it not work?

The connect link in the utility is there because the USB device is only available to one system at a time that is on your network.  When you click the connect link it looks to see if someone else is connected to the USB device and sends a message to that machine asking to disconnect so that you can connect to it.

What version is the shareport utility you're using? 1.00 was released on Oct. 22

Hi Ru Fi Oh,

I downloaded and installed the latest version of shareport utility, before connecting the magicJack to the USB Port on the Router.

Did you get this to work. I am thinking of dumping Vonage for MagicJack
