Wireless speeds drop Tech support avoiding emails
« on: April 16, 2010, 09:32:03 AM »

I am experiencing poor signal strength and slow connections with in my LAN.
The speed can be as low as 8Mbps on the 5 GHz  channel. The speeds fluctuate.  For a second, literally a second it will hit 300Mps.
No other equipment on those signals. I'm not far from the router. 50 feet maybe.

I have the latest firmware. 1.22
D-link 855
Hardware Version: A2,

Support seems to be avoiding me. They responded and asked for the model number. Which I had gave them. Then I waited four days. No response. I emailed again. A week passed and still no response!

*also router is configured according to the guide in the above sticky.

I have contacted D-link again with no help. I have noticed other people with similar problems. Considering this is a high end product with a price tag of $300.00 I would expect better performance and support! I think it is going back to Best Buy.

I see this as well. Although I never see 300mbps.

After a fresh boot I'll get about 200mbps. Then it will slow to well under 100mbps. This is on file copies.

I am unable to watch HD rips on my home server over this connection for 1080p BluRay rips without glitching (for discs I own, so don't even go there).

I should have enough bits either way to stream this stuff. No dice. Time to pull cable.

No new firmware in months. I don't think anyone is home.

Well. I'm done. F.U. D-Link.

This thing cannot reliably stream a ripped blu-ray to a SINGLE and ONLY client 25 feet away. That client is connected to a DAP-1522. D-Links own products suck together, I'd hate to try another vendors bridge or wireless N NIC.  It is a white box of fail on the fail train with no return ticket.

Sure, a file copy or bandwidth est will show enough bandwidth. But something else is going on.

Newegg return process starting in 3...2...1...

Followup on my end: I am seeing perfect performance now. I'm not sure what I did, or when I did it but I can stream my HD 1080p stuff from my server to my DAP-1522 with zero issues.

I'm not getting 300mbps. But I do get 200+ if I have the DAP1522 oriented just right. The lack of external antenna make it tough to get positioned right for optimal perf.

So...I voided the warranty on the 1522 and can see that it can accommodate external antenna with minimal mods, so I tried that and it worked very well.
