Compatible with Windows 7 32 bit only?
« on: January 14, 2010, 10:20:34 PM »

Microsoft says that the DIR-855 is compatible with Windows 7 32bit but no mention of 64bit. They do note this on other D-Link routers.  Should I take this to mean that it wouldn't be compatible with 64bit Windows 7 or ..should it just be updated?

Runs fine with Win7/64 Ultimate.
I have two clients connected without any problems.

It was more difficult to find a functional wireless driver for this OS.

Generally a router is OS independent.

I don't know if the shareport utility runs on win 7. If not then soon it will.

In general routers are OS independent.

I've been using it with Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit with no issues at all.  Even the desktop gadget works with it.

The OS isn't dependent on the router.....it is dependent on the network protocols.  The protocols are the same for IP communication across the internet.

I have over a dozen devices on my network including 3 - GB switches and an Ethernet wireless bridge (DAP-1522). The DIR-855 performs very well.  The only complaint I've had is the stability issues after the firmware update presumably associated with DNS relaying.  I installed a beta firmware version that hopefully addresses the issues.  I also wish the 5 GHz band had better range...but that isn't the fault of the router.  The higher frequency signal attenuates faster than the 2.4 GHz signal.

Are there any anti-trojan programs that are compatible with 64 bit Windows? Some 32 bit programs, Avast for instance I think, do work with 64 bits. Evidently both a-squared and Ewido are not compatible.

Thanks,
Jerry

Running Windows 7 - 64bit on my Dell Vista 1700 laptop from work, connecting to the DIR-855.  No problems whatsoever.
