Setting up as Router, not as acces point
« on: March 13, 2010, 02:48:18 AM »

Hi,

My DIR825 router (Router) currently works as access point behind a Thomson TWG850 modem (Modem). I followed the Router's instructions: disabled both DHCP and UPnP on the Router, then I connected the Router to the Modem via the Router's Lan port and the Modem's Lan port (lan-to-lan).

However, previously I had an Asus router, working as a router behind the Modem, where the cable connection ran from Lan on the modem to Wan on the Asus router. I like that set-up.

Question: can I change my Router into a router, and let the Modem just be modem?

-/-

Note that my Modem has this ip address: 192.168.0.1, and its DHCP server assigns addresses in this range: 192.168.0.10 - 192.168.0.254. The Router (access point) has this address 192.168.0.254. I can change these values.

I would have thought that disabling DHCP and UPnP on the Modem and (re-)enabling them both on the Router should work, but I am not sure. Also, I think I should change the ip-address of the modem, for example to 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.2

Any suggestions are welcome.
