using DIR-655 as a VPN router
« on: July 22, 2009, 01:33:42 PM »

I am trying to provide VPN service to a device which cannot perform VPN itself (PS3) using the StrongVPN provider.
Can it be done with a DIR-655 router?
Does its VPN connection mode on the WAN side serve that purpose? If not why is it there?
Thanks for your help!

Most DIR router do not have any VPN functions.  They will provide VPN "pass-thru" from the "source" device.

D-Link doesn't include VPN functionality in any of their home routers.  You'll have to upgrade to a business class router that includes VPN.  There are many other ways to create a VPN server but that goes beyond the scope of these forums.

Why not use VPNArea? They have dd-wrt guides and compatible routers list and are a much better choice than strongvpn when it comes down to usa vpn or china vpn. I don't think DIR-655 is dd-wrt compatible. Cheaper to buy and also have 40 countries to choose from, access to all is included.
