« on: February 09, 2010, 03:16:02 PM »

I can see the 2.4 but the 5.0 is visible in the settings of the router but not by my laptop. What gives? Latest firmware installed. Computer is wireless n capable, running windows 7 home premium. ???

Most laptops only ship with 2.4 GHz N adapters.  What model wireless is built into your laptop?  You can probably find this in the Device Manager.

For example, I have a Dell that I added an Intel 4965AGN wireless which provides N capabilities on both 2.4 and 5 GHz.

The laptop shipped with a Dell wireless 1395 which can only do 2.4 GHz N.

5.0 connection have less range than 2.4.
I also get a better connection when I change the channel.

Make sure the wi-fi card in your computer is dual band.  If not, you'll only see the 2.4 mhz band.

Cheers ;)
