hello everyone. quick question....
« on: February 17, 2010, 08:19:30 AM »

Hello everyone,

I recently purchased the D-link 825 router for home use. One of the main reasons that i bought a new router is that my old router was working fine, but it just didnt seem to work very well under high stress. Right now I have an average of two laptops, a desktop, and a ps3. The two laptops are going off of wireless g, and the desktop and ps3 are plugged directly into the router.

ok so the problem I am having is that when I play Call of Duty: MW2 on the ps3 and watching hulu or data streaming on one of the laptops it is totally killing my connection. The ps3 totally starts to lag out, it even shows on my screen the connection is bad, and the hulu video starts to get choppy. but if i am only doing one at a time it is fine. I have tried changing a few things, like messing with the qos. but basically ive never configured a d-link router before and just wanted to know if there are a few things i can try. i can change back any settings that would be needed.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

If you need any more information just let me know. I know i didnt give much info but i dont want to continue blabbing away if someone has already dealt with this problem.

What is your download / upload speed from your ISP?

Go to www.speedtest.net and let us know what you get for your download / upload speeds. My first guess is that you are maxing out your bandwidth.

im in class right now, and i will try it once i get home.
with my old router is was around 10/2, sometimes hits 12/2.

im using optimum.

i found out what ports i need to forward and open up. im going to try that.

ill double check my firmware once i get home too.

my main priorty is the ps3, because idk if any of you play call of duty, but you never wanna get killed by the lag monster. do you think i should setup the QOS, or leave it alone?

Don't update your firmware yet. What revision / firmware do you have now?
