Firmware 1.33NA problem with shareport
« on: February 18, 2010, 10:54:48 AM »

Hello,

I have just upgraded the firmware to 1.33NA and the problems with Shareport is still there. (after 2 days, it is still impossible to connect till I reboot the router).
I did the Upgrade, then reset to factory, then entered the parameters manually and saved / rebooted the router.

Is there a new workaround (or should I try the downgrade firmware)?
Is the EU firmware working correctly with shareport? Is the firmware upgradable from 1.33NA

Thank you
Marc

Which version of shareport are you using?

Looks like you would want 1.10

PC SharePort Utility 1.10 4/14/2009
Revision Info: ¤ To be used with Firmware 1.31 or higher.

SharePort Utility 1.14 1/15/2009
Revision Info: ¤ To be used with Firmware 1.21 or prior.

I tried 1.33NA with with clean install (uninstall old version and install new version) of SharePort 1.10 R....and found that shareport version not working with my WD external Elements HD formatted fat 32.
I did hard reset on the router before & after firmware upgrade and entered my config manually and rebooted. Router seemed fine, just shareport was wonky.
It would see the drive, but hang computer when I selected avi files on drive to play.
I would notice shareport would disconnect from the HD, every time I selected a file. I checked Win 7 64 firewall, made appropriate public/private changes to no avail.
In order to use shareport I had to downgrade (go back) to 655 (A4) firmware 1.21 and do clean install of shareport version 0.93, and all is good. By the way I use Avast 5 AV on my computers with no access problems to my USB devices (HD's or printers on powered hub) with this firmware/shareport version.
Just to be sure that it was not operator error, I did firmware/shareport upgrade twice within a week and got the same results...and yes I installed the 64 bit version of Shareport.
I did notice the 1.33NA firmware was a bit snappier in its web face configuration pages, but no noticeable faster internet web page loading or speed increases. I did not check wireless connections or Router stability, as the shareport issue killed further testing for me.
If anyone has a clue as to resolving this problem, I would like to hear........

Hi,

I have had and seen issues with AVI file access triggering Windows DEP sub-system...not sure if this is the issue in your case...but it may be a contributing factor.

I use a printer for my Share Port off the DIR, and it works wonderfully; the v1.10 Share Port is much better than the v1.14/1.15 used wth FW 1.21

Hello,
Thank you
I use the version 1.10 (the printer is seen, I can connect manually, and even automatically to print, but after 2 days, I have to reboot because shareport is stuck at "Connecting to the Printer" (like in the beginning with Shareport 1.3  :'(

Did you set shareport v1.10 to connect for printing only ?  I presume that implies it will auto-disconnect immediately after the print job is cleared from the queue.

Does your printer have an auto-power-on feature ?  Have you tried swapping out the printer's USB cable ?

Hello,

Shareport is set to connect when needed.
I have increased the time before disconnect to 5 minutes, but it didn't change anything.
My printer is always on (sleep mode) and starts printing as soon as a job comes (and goes back to sleep 15 minutes after  the job is printed)

I didn't try to swap the cable but as I never encountered a problem with the old shareport (firmware 1.21), I don't think that is is a problem.
