router always running a second default network.

I'm having a strange problem with my DIR-628. I have a secured network setup that seems to be running fine. However when I scan for other networks, there is always another 'default' setup network being broadcast. I'm sure this is from the router, I've tried everything but can't figure out why this second network is broadcasting.

Any thoughts?

Are you really sure that you are not picking up a neighbor's network?  You would be very surprised on just how far the router's broadcasts are really seen.

I found the forum searching for this very issue.
I use my own DHCP server on the same LAN that the DIR-628 is plugged into. That DHCP server suddenly had all sorts of iphones and garbage in the leases list.

Since the D-Link is the only point of exposure, I upgraded the firmware. The firmware blows everything back to defaults (which is pretty poor by the way) but it did allow me to observe the following:

1) I set up a new WIRELESS SSID, applied WPA2 security, etc. Used mixed g and n mode.
2) My wireless laptop found a generic network called "dlink" on channel 1, attached to it with ZERO security and pulled an IP address from my DHCP server (192.168.142.x)
3) My WIRELESS SSID was still out there, on channel 8 (from autoscan) and working perfectly.

I can't figure out how to get rid of that channel 1 with the dlink SSID. Also, this is damned dangerous since most people would assume what the last guy did "neighboring network" and go on about their day.

This is dual SSID's coming from my router. Guarantee it. How do I stop it?

I am 100% sure it is not a neighbors network. My neighbors do not have my private IP address scheme.
I promise, this is coming from my router. It also uses a MAC address that does not match either the LAN or WAN macs listed in the router.

The SSID I actually set up has the proper (LAN side) MAC associated with it.

Mystery solved. It was coming from my (other) router. This is an issue with remote offices that try and help themselves.
I wish I was making this up... they thought they could help themselves to extra wireless strength in a busy building by going out and buying another router. Next, they plug the internet port into their lan, the internet port grabs a DHCP address from my server and starts serving it out, perfectly unsecured.

Thats two hours of my life I will never get back.
