OGG and FLAC support for mt-daapd (Firefly)
« on: July 06, 2009, 08:20:32 AM »

Hello I have a question regarding the mt-daapd in the 1.08 beta version.

1.) Which version-number is it?
2.) Is the firefly-client able to handle OGG and FLAC files?

If not: Please consider to include this files here:
http://files.hesse-n.com/ch3snas/

Works great!

On official 1.08, FireFly svn-1696.

I added *.ogg to patterns, but the playing don't works, so probably there isn't OGG support.

+1 for ogg support, I have many of them on my music collection! (or, at least, D-Link sould publish firefly package sources so we can compile an improved version on our own).

The version from the link above is

mt-daapd-svn-1735

I would really like to have ogg and flac support from the DNS-323.

However, I really would prefer to have a mediaserver that is still alive... mt-daapd / firefly has not been actively  developed further since summer 2008.

I doubt, that the Firefly-project is still alive when looking at the various "End-of-Life"-comments on rokulabs.

I would prefer to see a "healthy" mediaserver-project as a add-on to the DNS-323, or at least considering

the forked-daapd

as an option (have not tried it sofar)

FireFly is strictly for serving to iTunes. We do not use it as a primary 'media server' for the device.

Is UPnP regarded as the "primary media server"?

If yes; Please give some details on how to enable proper logging of the UPnP-functionality to find problems.
UPnP does very funny things with my Soundbrigde HomeMusic, only very few files can be played (about 10%).

I also tried to play MP3's via UPnP using
- Philipps Wireless Hi-Fi-Microsystem, MCI300/12.
- Freecom MusicPal Wireless Internet Radio
with same (unsatisfactory) results a couple of months ago.

If no: Do you consider using "forked-daapd" as an option to replace the outdated version "Build svn-1696" from Mon, 29 October 2007?

For now I am stuck with the files from http://files.hesse-n.com/ch3snas/

Regards
