I have tracked down the problem, but have no solution...
I'm backing up three PC's running Vista, using Vista's built in backup program. The Folders created by the backup program are not accessible on the Dlink drive. I have tried every conceivable method, and my access is still denied. I cannot even tell how much space I am using up, as the used space is not available. I do suspect that this is where my hard drive space is disappearing.
Interestingly, before I received the DLink, I backed up these three computers to a spare server, using the exact same backup program. I can access the Folders on the spare server easily, while the same folders on the DLink are not accessible.
This evening, I spent about two hours on the phone with DLink tech support. I started at ground level, was escalated to a second tier support tech, then was supposed to be connected to a product specialist. While I was on hold for the product specialist, I received a message stating that the office is closed and I would have to call back some other time!
Frankly, I doubt that even the product specialist will be able to help, as this is a very peculiar problem. I would be tempted to blame it on Windows, except for the fact that I can access the backup Folders no problem when they reside on a server hard drive, but not when they are on the DLink. As the DLink is the only obvious variable, I think it is their issue.
