DWL2100AP - Configuring for Repeater Mode

Setup:
DIR451 - Access to Internet, printers and SAN connected.
Security - Shared WEP Key

This works 100% and has for many years.

DWL2100AP - works fine when connected via cable to DIR451 as Access point.
However, as Repeater - wireless - :(

Settings: AP-Repeater, Selected DIR-451 MAC Address, Security WEP - Shared Key - entered same key.

Nothing connects to it.  What is wrong?
Is there a set of more detailed instructions and trouble shooting somewhere?

(I'd post screen shots, but it appears not to be functional)
