Problems configuring new DIR-655
« on: March 02, 2010, 02:32:14 AM »

I've just received my new DIR-655, H/W Rev A4, F/W 1.21WW.
I changed it to 192.168.1, rather than 192.168.0 because all my other devices are on .1
I turned on syslog.

I try to create access control rules. When I click save it waits about 8 - 10 seconds and drops to the login screen and loses everything I did.
I try to create application rules. When I click save it waits about 8 - 10 seconds and drops to the login screen and loses everything I did.

I managed to create 4 schedules, but I can't create any more - does the same as above.

I've tried litterally dozens of times. I've rebooted the router, I've "reset" it, power cycled it and even rebooted PC. Nothing I do works. I cannot get the router configured.

Any ideas as to why this might be happening?

thanks

I guess to answer this question one might ask "Are there any messages on your syslog server?"
To which the answer will be "no"
Then "Is your syslog server configured properly? Try turning off syslog and see if that helps".

As it turns out, the Syslog service on the syslog server was down. It appears the D-Link was trying to talk to it. It wasn't responding so the D-Link just crashed to the log in screen with no explanation.
