Slow write speed
« on: March 08, 2010, 04:01:59 PM »

Hi, I just got a DNS-321 this past weekend and have been trying to move some data onto it.

Right now with my 321 connected to my WRT54GL router (via 100MB ethernet) and from my computer connected wirelessly I'm getting ~1 MB/s write speeds, which is pretty horrendous.

If I connect via crossover directly to my computer (with my wireless and ethernet bridged, so I don't have to change the 321's network config) I was getting 7-10 MB/s.

Are these normal speeds or is it because of the 100MB ethernet and G wireless?

I'm thinking of getting an N router with Gigabit ethernet ports.  With the same configuration would I get considerably better speeds?  Are there any other speed tips or tricks you guys know of?

Thanks.

It's the wireless connection.  100mbit will get you close to 10mbytes/sec, but file transfers over wireless connections really suck!
