Portforwarding my USB device ?

Hi!
I just completed acessing to my usb drive by downloading the shareport from dlink.
And it works great, can now see the drive and can also se my printer.

But the question is that...
I want to connect to my usb drive when i am away at school.
What shall i do? What shall i do in "virtual server" ? I canīt type in FTP as application name and the routerns internal 192.168.0.1 as computer name. I just want to save files on my drive when i am away.

why not? is the usb output only for homenetwork usage? If i want to acess from school do i must buy a NAS? and connect it with a network cable direct to the router? FTP?

by the way, under my router it is version A5 firmware 1.21EU
Now i updated it to 1.30EUb08 and the shareport 1.15.9
In the webbinterface it is a version A4 something strange? is it ok?

You need either a NAS or a computer with running FTP server or something like NSLU2 from Linksys or USB-Station from Synology that can turn USB-storage into network storage.

A USB (device) to ethernet (router entry) converter does seem to exist (saw it a couple of years ago, Taiwan made), but no way tell if it does the trick and/or is useable on a router.

So just take the USB drive with you in your pocket  8)

thats true. but i mean, i have a internal hard drive with a capinet, and the capinet has a usb output, so i wondered if there was something that could convert the usb outport to a network output so i can put it into the router.
