Configuration of 2 email servers
« on: March 14, 2010, 04:01:48 PM »

this question is also posted in dir-615 board

here's the issue - i am in the process of migrating to exchange 2010 from exchange 2007.  the AD in 2007 is a bit flaky so i thought i would do a clean install.  consequently, i also have sharepoint and would need to migrate it too.  I have one WAN wire coming in - I thought I would have 2 separate domains / FQDN - originaldomain.local and newdomain.local whereas the external domain name would be the same, but for testing, i could use a different external domain name and have separate mx records to test - the issue is coexistence on the same internal network.

I have 2 routers - the DIR 615 and DIR 655 - what i've initially done is run the WAN connection to a switch, with then feeds each router - in effect, two separate networks - it seems to be though, that this could be done with different configurations for one router - this issue is that i don't understand some of the features of either router - i also have 2 separate static ip addresses.

Should I put one email server in the DMZ?  When would you use this?
Should I (or could i) use a virual server configuration?  When would you use this?

Or should I just buy another router?
