I asked D-Link that question about a year ago. Their response was that they didn't support the monitoring protocols that the SFP Multi Source Agreement implemented, but that the modules should work because the SFP data interface is standardized. We have been using both Cisco modules and modules from a Chinese 3rd party supplier without problems. What they said can get you in trouble is the signaling protocol on the fiber. ie: a Cisco module on one end of the fiber and, as a theoretical example, a 3com module on the other end of the fiber wouldn't be able to talk. The Chinese modules we have been getting use the Cisco signaling on the fiber, so we haven't had that problem.
