133NA Can't Save Settings
« on: March 11, 2010, 11:50:13 AM »

All of a sudden I have been getting "network cable unplugged" errors on a computer that is connected via ethernet to the DIR-655.  Hardware A4, Shipped with 1.32NA, would not properly synchronize with a time server, so i upgraded to 1.33NA.  It seemed OK for a while, then the above errors started.

When i try to make any changes to the time settings, the router won't take the changes... It cycles like it's logging out, goes to a screen about measuring the network connection, then comes back to the router login screen.

When i went from 1.32 to 1.33 i saved a configuration file, so i thought maybe that was the problem.  Today i did the WHOLE process over again.  HARD RESET with the paper clip in the reset hole for 20 seconds, restored all settings to factory defaults, flashed 1.33 AGAIN with a new download, then configured everything MANUALLY.  It still won't let me save settings!!!!

Does anyone have ANY idea what could be causing this?  I've checked this forum pretty thoroughly... did i miss something????

Thanks!

I haven't encountered your exact problem, but have had trouble saving changes to my Port Forwarding.

The solution to making the router remember my changes was to make the desired changes, then enable Securespot and reboot.  Afterwards, disable Securespot and reboot again.

Maybe see if this works for you.

I will try enabling securespot to see if i can then save changes.  I can't make changes THEN enable securespot, because if i attempt to navigate away from the page where i made changes, i will be prompted to save or lose the changes.  If i save the router will time out or reset and they won't be saved anyway.

I am having the same issue. Does not matter what change I make when I save the router kicks me out and makes me log in again or it gives the the blank screen and says it is measuring the network connection. Either way I can not change a single setting on the router.

Heckler - I finally got things working, but I can't tell you EXACTLY how.  I did a hard reset via the button on the back of the router, and re-flashed the 1.33NA firmware.  I then uploaded one of my first "saved settings" versions on which i had not set any access control or enabled an NTP server for the time.   This version also had the "securespot" services enabled - lots of people seem to be having problems there -but i have never signed up for any free trials and haven't had any issues with being redirected to their website.

I then manually entered some of my later modifications to the firmware, like schedules and access control for specific computers.  I seem to be able to save now, i don't get the cycling "network cable unplugged" and I haven't gotten booted back to the router login screen or the "measuring network connection" types of errors I was having before.

Some people have speculated that you need to have securespot enabled via the checkbox for other settings to save.  i still can't figure that one out.

This was after i had just downloaded the software to allow me to downgrade to a 1.2X version of the software.  That was going to be my next tactic.

Another way to get around the router not saving your settings problem is to disconnect from the Internet.  That is, to the cable out of the WAN port.  Then you will find that the settings are saved.

There is also a problem with the network time protocol server option especially when used in conjunction with daylight savings time.  Turn both features off for now. After having the same problem, this and downgrading back to firmware 1.32 N/A stabilized the router.
