manage this switch with web interface or other?
« on: April 16, 2010, 09:57:13 AM »

Hi All.  I am a former Cisco networker and I have switched to DLINK.  I have a few fundamental questions that I thought would be easily answered in this forum and also give me an opportunity to evaluate the effectiveness of these forums as opposed to experts-exchange and others.  So here we go...

1.  I have a DGS-1216T that I want to connect to to manage -- if it has this capability.    Can I or how do  I connect to do so.  As far as I know it has nothing configured on it -- it's currently just being used as a plain-old switch.

2.  Anyone with experience with this device, can you tell me if it's manageable, segmentable, and any other salient tidbits would be helpful.

I will check the forums to see if there is anything else, and I will also look at the online documentation.

Thanks.

It is certainly manageable, it is a "Web-Smart" switch, meaning it has a HTTP GUI, but no out of band configuration.

We have a "Smart Console Utility" on http://support.dlink.com, that will discover it for you and even link you into it's management page.

The manual on that same site will be of huge help to you getting an idea of the feature set of this switch.

Thanks for your feedback... I think I'm having some intelligence lapse, as I cannot find a link to download the management utility.... any help is appreciated.

Thanks.

Does the DGS-1016D also have this remote management capability?

Is there ANY way to hard-code speed/duplex on the port(s) of a DGS1016D switch?
