I am currently using a DIR-655 for the home wireless network.
DSL into a 2-Wire home portal (not wireless) and ethernet into the DIR-655.
I need to connect a number of wired devices in a couple of different rooms. Some streaming HDTV content to other devices in other rooms.
I'm thinking of the following:
DIR-655 routing between the DSL subnet to the internet, the 2.4GHz wireless and a couple of wired devices.
DAP-1522 routing between the 2.4GHz wireless, 5GHz wireless, and a few wired devices.
DAP-1522 bridging between the 5GHz wireless and a few wired devices.
All devices will/may need internet access.
HDTV content would be between wired devices and only over the 5GHz wireless (no HDTV to/from internet).

Is the DAP-1522 the right device(s) for this?

OK, a few problems with your plan, if I understand correctly.  First, the DIR-655 does not support the 5ghz band, so if your plan is to give 5ghz access to the internet to your streaming devices, the DAP-1522s will need to talk directly to your router.  The DAP-1522s when used as bridges also will not talk to each other directly, unless you go through the router, which means you still need to have either a router or an AP that supports 5ghz.  Also, the DAP-1522s are either 2.4ghz or 5ghz.  They do not support simultaneous tx/rx on both bands.

You could use a separate DAP-1522 as an AP connected to your router to give you 5ghz ability, but I don't recommend it, because the DAP-1522 antennas are internal only (less range).  If buying new, I would sooner go for the DIR-825 simultaneous dual band router in this situation.  The DIR-825 will let you set up a separate 2.4ghz and 5ghz networks, as well as guest access zones, if necessary, and has better range than the DAP-1522 will give you as an AP.  The DIR-825 coupled with one or more DAP-1522s should give you what you need, because you can set some of the DAP-1522s up in 2.4ghz mode if necessary and all will communicate with the DIR-825.  If you already own a DIR-655, or if you run into further range problems with the 5ghz band, you will also need to throw a 5ghz wireless repeater into the mix.  A lot of people like the Hawking N repeater, and I think Buffalo makes a decent 5ghz repeater as well.

Thanks for all that! I didn't understand what the 1522 did. I thought it was simultaneous dual band and that as an access point it could bridge/route between all three lans on it -- 2.4, 5, Eth. Sigh... and that range thing.  I may just end up stringing cat6 to each room with a small switch/hub and possibly an access point. Thanks for the help.

I thought the DIR-825 was dual band but not simultaneously? What is the difference between the 825 and the 855?
