5 GHz works; 2.4 GHz drops
« on: April 08, 2010, 09:01:03 PM »

My DIR-825 is hooked into an Actiontec M1000 with AT&T DSL.  The 5GHz network seems to work just fine on my n-equipped laptop, but anything that is 2.4 GHz (wife's laptop, other laptops) repeatedly slows and drops.  Any ideas?

Could be there is some interference... Have you tried setting the channel manually, to a less used channel? You could check how much activity is in the area on the 2.4 GHz.

Use your laptop (disconnected from your network to improve scanning-results) with a tool, called INSSIDER (link here), to see what else is happening, and which channels are less used.

Most of the time a very strong signal in your neighbourhood may interfere with your connections dramatically.

Thank you; I'll try this and report back.
