FW 106.1 not manually updating

I downloaded the zip, extracted it to the root of a usb flash drive, plug it in to the dsm520, and nothing. Tried 2 different thumbdrives - even formatted them (FAT32 and FAT). It blinks for a couple second, display changes to USB DIRECT with a Partition_1 folder. Click the folder and no files found. It's not recognizing the firmware update. What am I doing wrong???

OK, somehow it finally updated - not sure how, but it is as 106.1. Now the problem I have is a random lock up while playing back a movie streamed from a PC. Haven't seen this before, was fine. Anyone else?

You need to give us more information.  The more...the better.

What is the format of the movie?  (avi, ts, mpg, etc.)

Wired or wireless?

What kind of media server program (D-Link or ?  )

What kind of media server program (D-Link or ?  )
Playon running on a wintel7 laptop.

Have to hold the on/off switch on the dsm520 in for a good minute before she'll shut down. Output while locked up is no video output.
